Bosch GBH18V-28DC 1 1/8″ Rotary Hammer with Dust Collector
The Bosch 1-inch cordless rotary hammer cuts the cord on the popular corded model
Bosch’s introduction of its Core18V battery line opens up greater power availability. Bosch has now reached the point where its battery-powered cordless hammer drills exceed the power of its corded models. The Bosch GBH18V-28DC 1 1/8-inch Hammer Drill with GDE28D Dust Collector delivers 3.4 J of impact energy.
What to expect from the Bosch GBH18V-28DC 1 1/8 inch Rotary Hammer
The Bosch GBH18V-28DC 1 1/8-inch hammer drill is even tougher than the corded GBH 2-28. In fact, we see several differences in the specs. Impact energy is up from 0.2 J to 3.4 J (2.5 ft-lb). It maintains the same maximum drilling diameters in masonry, metal and wood.
Bosch opts for the more elongated D-handle design. We actually prefer this to the open drill handle of the GBH 2-28 corded hammer drill.
Without a battery, the Bosch GBH18V-28DC hammer drill weighs only 0.2 pounds more than the corded model. Add a Core18V 8.0 Ah battery and you’ll contribute about a pound and a half to the bare tool weight of 6.6 pounds.
The Bosch 1 1/8-inch Cordless Hammer Drill continues to include anti-kickback features to help prevent injury if you bind yourself. It’s a welcome addition, especially when drilling in reinforced concrete.
There are three standard Rotary Hammer modes: Spin Only, Hammer Only, and Hammer with Spin. There is also a chuck rotation point so you can change the angle of attack with a chisel.
What’s interesting is that Bosch opts for a two-level dial. You have to press the top button and give it a little turn to unlock it. From there, it will come back in the next relaxation it encounters. This prevents you from accidentally taking the dial out of the selected mode.
- Variable speed reversing trigger with equal power in both directions
- 360º side handle with push button depth rod lock
- Connected ready for integration into the Bosch Toolbox app
- Tool hook for hanging the hammer drill
Cut the cord and the pipe
The Bosch GBH18V-28DC is compatible with the lightweight GDE 28 D dust extractor with filter cleaning mechanism. It uses an integrated HEPA dust collector for dust-free drilling and allows you to work without being tethered to cords and pipes. We like the transparent container and how easily the GDE 28 D attaches to the tool and doesn’t require its own battery to operate.
The GDE 28 D Professional dust extractor is easily mounted with just one click. You can also empty the dust container without removing the filter. You get great flexibility as it includes two interchangeable dust eyes for drilling with drill bits up to 1 1/8 inches in diameter and an extension for drill bits up to 10.5 inches in length.
Because it includes a manual filter cleaning mechanism, it is considered a Table 1 compliant accessory. You can also check the Bosch silica dust site for Objective Data documents and methods for complying with concrete drilling regulations.
Adding the dust collector to the Bosch 1 1/8-inch cordless rotary hammer only adds about 1.8 pounds. This makes the Bosch GBH18V-28DC cordless/hoseless set settle in at around 10 pounds.
