First Thursday postponed due to weather, postponed to August 11
ALEXANDRIA, VA –First Thursday: Aloha Thursday takes place Thursday, August 11 from 6:00 p.m. to dusk along Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray. Wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt and join this street festival featuring live music, themed activities and more. The event is free and open to all. Special thanks to the Tiki Bar for sponsoring the first Thursday of this month!
This month’s featured nonprofit is Mother of Light Center, a volunteer-run organization based in Del Ray that provides food, clothing and household items to those in need in our community and offers several community programs for vulnerable families, including a support group for mothers Singles and Reach for the Stars after-school program. Items needed include boxed tissues, large pink erasers, 24 ct. Crayola Crayons, Expo Dry Erase Markers (4-Pack, Low Odor, Chisel Tip), Crayons, Small Elmer’s Purple Glue Sticks, 12″ Rulers, 12 ct. Crayola pre-sharpened colored pencils, blunt-tip scissors, wide-lined spiral notebooks, pocket folders, highlighters, and Clorox sanitizing wipes for their back-to-school supply collection. Donations can be dropped off all week on Gayle’s porch at 110 E. Del Ray Avenue, or at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square on Thursday, August 11 from 6 p.m. to dusk.
Held the first Thursday from April through September along Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, First Thursday is a series of free outdoor street festivals that bring the community together around a fun, for the benefit of a local non-profit organization.
