‘Jewel of the Desert’ to hit MacDonald Highlands listings for $ 18 million
A MacDonald Highlands mansion with a Masters-inspired golf hole in its backyard and a wine cellar for romantic dining has hit the market for $ 18 million – a price that would break the all-time Las Vegas record.
With the growing demand for luxury housing in Las Vegas with an influx of out-of-state buyers, it’s possible to break the record set by magician David Copperfield in 2016 when he paid $ 17. $ 5 million for a Summerlin home next to the TPC Golf Course. .
The contemporary-style mansion next to the DragonRidge Country Club at 677 Boulder Summit Drive in Henderson was built by Sun West Custom Homes in 2015 and measures 14,005 square feet with six bedrooms and seven full bathrooms, including on a lower level . It has a garage for seven cars with a mute server to transport bags and goods from the garage below.
âWe call it Jewel of the Desert because it’s truly one of a kind and once in a lifetime,â said Amelia Keene, luxury listing agent at Keller Williams. âIt’s really special. It’s a wonderful single story with life and energy. It breathes. I think the ups and downs of the house at different levels, even though it’s one story, gives it energy.
The resort-style backyard with its lush landscaping separates it from many other luxury properties on its two acres. It has two swimming pools, two spas, seven waterfalls, rivers, cabanas and a Ben Hogan-themed bridge overlooking a green that looks like the 12th hole of the Augusta National Golf Club where the Masters takes place.
âIt’s a replica of the bridge with a waterfall underneath,â Keene said. “When you see it, it’s so peaceful.”
The backyard has two Coyote outdoor kitchens, including one near the putting green, and a bar for sipping, dining, and watching the sunsets. A wine cellar cave sits near the waterfall and under the expansive covered patio with outdoor kitchen that includes a pizza oven.
âI can’t even call it a backyard,â Keene said. âIt’s resort style and drooping jaw. There are a lot of luxury homes in gated communities, but this home has amazing views of the entire valley and the Las Vegas Strip and no one lives on either side. So you really have a private existence. It is very discreet.
The Great Room faces the back yard and has a 16 foot ceiling and an in-room cocktail bar where the Strip and valley can still be seen. Nearby there is a glass hallway to promote the indoor and outdoor experience. The bedroom opens onto an elevated entrance to the house where guests descend the stairs to the main level. About 90 percent of the house is on one level, making it a one-and-a-half or multi-level house due to the hillside elevation.
âEveryone in the great room has a view, no matter where they are seated,â Keene said. âWhen you look outside, there is a feeling of lush paradise. This is important for people moving to Vegas. This is what they want.
And for those who want even better views, there’s an observation deck, fireplace, and lounge to the side of the house.
The kitchen has a Roberto Cavalli backsplash and a solid granite island considered unique. There’s even a butler’s kitchen for those with a lot of fun.
A home theater has 12 seats and sofas, while an adjacent game room with vintage pinball machines has a candy bar-style concession stand like you would see in a movie theater. There’s even a sink, refrigerator, ice maker, and microwave.
There is a private wellness wing of the mansion which Keene says includes a peaceful massage room, Finnleo steam room, and sauna. An additional indoor hot tub is designed to have all the comforts of a world-class spa, but in the privacy of your own home, Keene said. A gym has French doors that lead out to a Zen garden and a waterfall.
âOne of the things about the house that I love is that it has a lot of energy and peaceful, calm Zen qualities like with the wellness spa,â Keene said.
The master bedroom has two separate designer bathrooms and two large separate walk-in closets. The living area with fireplace and floor-to-ceiling sliding doors offers views over the valley.
The mansion has two separate offices. The main office, which offers a view of the strip, has a custom Artesia desk, mantel, fireplace, tin-plate ceiling and a custom Jeff Tobler bookcase, Keene said. An office on the lower level leads to a waterfall in the back yard.
âThey’ve thought of everything in this house,â Keene said. “With the offices it has, you never have to go back to work again.”
There are two guest bedrooms with full en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closets with two additional bedrooms which have an adjoining retreat (currently a children’s playroom). Each has its own bathroom and private yard, Keene said. In addition, a guest suite on the lower level has a private full bathroom with doors leading out to the courtyard.
Keene said she expects the house to set a new sales record and suggests that a celebrity, athletes or CEO line up to buy the house. She said international buyers have generated a lot of interest. The house is owned by movie producer Bryan Foster, according to Clark County ownership records.
âI think it will be bought by people looking to change their lifestyle after a year of COVID and looking for something special and unique,â ââKeene said. âI think people want something different that they can call their own and a style that speaks to Vegas, its lifestyle and its energy. People always say that a house is truly one of a kind, but you can look at other houses in the valley and never see anything like it again.
What also separates the house is its design features, Keene said. It was done with the help of luxury home designer Stephanie Styles, who Keene said if she couldn’t find it for the house, she had.
âThe vision she had for this house was special, like when you come in and go down the stairs and see the Strip,â Keene said.
Styles has designed homes from Cabo Mexico to Beverly Hills and Colorado to Las Vegas.
âAs soon as you hit that front door, there are mind-boggling factors in every space,â Styles said. âEach room has its own personality. I created the ups and downs (going up and down levels on the ground floor) and all over the house to make it more interesting. âI decided to divide the house in two. I have two classes here and one there. There must have been a continuous wall where the bar is. I put mirrors there so that even at night you can see the Strip.
The living room has Roberto Cavalli porcelain floors, a stone fireplace, a blue Santangelo chandelier, custom Luna Bella balustrades, and hardwood floors. There is even stone from Tibet.
There is a custom Nick Alain chandelier in the kitchen with a Thermador stove and two Thermador refrigerators and a beverage center and two dishwashers. Custom cabinets are by Artesia.
The cocktail bar features custom corset chairs and bar lighting elements.
A powder room off the great room has an Onyx floating vanity with shaved glass walls.
The dining area has custom designed furniture by Styles and Allegra box top ceiling.
Even the outdoors had a purpose with Styles working with the landscape architect for “paths to nowhere and everyone and secret gardens and a mystical feeling and a fantasy land.” It came out spectacular.
Even the outdoor wine cellar had a purpose. It is a concrete bunker 12 feet wide and 20 feet deep. Styles put fabric along the walls, stoned the barrel ceiling, and put hardwood floors, custom cabinetry, and wine barrels lined up where you can eat.
âIt’s an amazing environment for this romantic dinner for a group of two or four,â Styles said.
The master bedroom, which is also one of her favorite rooms, has an Allegra chandelier and bespoke wood paneling ceilings and bespoke gray faux pearl walls. There is a coffee bar with custom cabinets, a refrigerator and a microwave.
âThe master’s retreat is amazing,â Styles said. âI did a hand painted mural with a local artist over the tub in the master bathroom. I hung chains around the bed. I made some nice awnings in the game room that mirror the awnings in the outside courtyard so everything is continuous. The pleasure is to do every detail. The slab (of the granite island) in the kitchen is the latest of its kind and created the look of the house – rock star glam – and this is the house.
