Lake Tahoe mansion for sale in Meeks Bay for $28 million
A 15,000-square-foot Meeks Bay estate called Rockhaven — with sweeping views of Lake Tahoe, 300 feet of water frontage, radiant heat, and 500-year-old reclaimed wood flooring from France — has returned to the market for $28 million.
Located on 1.22 acres on Tahoe’s Great West Shore, the residence has eight bedrooms and 13 total bathrooms. The property includes two buoys and a 140-foot private dock.
The property, 8217 Meeks Bay Ave, South Lake Tahoe, was listed last year for $32 million before being taken off the market, according to realtor.com. It was relisted at the current price less than three weeks ago.
Listing agent Bill Dietz, president of Tahoe Luxury Properties, said the luxury home market in the area is doing well for several reasons despite a downturn in real estate overall.
“Higher prices offer some protection against corrections in the broader real estate market,” he told the Sacramento Bee by email. “Buyers are less dependent on financing (and) are therefore less sensitive to interest rate increases. With the economy showing signs of slowing and stock markets in bearish territory, high net worth individuals are turning to lifestyle purchases rather than pursuing strict investments. “
When it comes to lifestyle, Rockhaven offers plenty of choice. There is a private trail that leads to the lake, access to boating and other water sports out the back door, and of course nearby ski resorts. The property is designed for indoor-outdoor living with four hot tubs, an outdoor shower, an outdoor kitchen, multiple patios, and a grassy lawn.
“Winter is a fairy tale in Rockhaven,” according to the official property listing. “With a state-of-the-art hydronic heating system and eight fire pits, you’ll stay warm while watching the snow gently falling on Lake Tahoe. The driveway’s snowmelt system allows you to freely drive in and out, access to adjacent world-class resorts known for downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and ice skating. ice.
Dietz said what sets Rockhaven apart for him is: the location on the southern promontory of Meeks Bay, which offers sweeping views of the north, east, and south shores of Lake Tahoe; 300 feet of frontage on the lake; the size of the house for large gatherings of friends and family; and the old wooden parquet reclaimed from France.
If one must work, the house (built in 2002) has an executive office with space large enough to accommodate meetings. A second office space is upstairs.
The master suite is lavish, featuring two private baths, three sinks, a steam shower, and an oversized spa tub overlooking Lake Tahoe. It also has a fireplace and a private balcony with a hot tub.
The house’s guest suite features a steam shower, dual vanity sinks, fireplace, private balcony and access to a second balcony with a hot tub and BBQ area .
On the lower level, three bedrooms and a recreation area, bar and kitchen are found. This level has patio access to the outdoor hot tubs, outdoor kitchen, and lawn area.
A large gym, sauna, and theater room with a 160-inch projection screen and two levels of seating are also found on the ground floor.
The residence includes two adjoining guest houses. One unit has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The second guest house has a bedroom and a bathroom. Both have full-size kitchens and living rooms with fireplaces.
Dietz declined to identify the seller.
