Orange Goes Into High End Electric Guitars With Luxuriously Designed OE-1 Single Cut
Orange guitar amp powerhouse has once again ventured into the six-string market, unveiling its all-new hand-crafted electric guitar, the OE-1.
Designed by Orange Technical Director Ade Emsley, each ax will be made to order by luthier Jason Burns of Blast Cult in London, England, and features a series of luxuriously appointed and painstakingly designed features.
Construction-wise, the single cutaway model sports a two-piece mahogany body, 24.75-inch mahogany neck, and 12-inch radius ebony fingerboard with 22 frets.
Ebony is also used on the head, which features an orange mother-of-pearl logo cut by hand and made by Burns using jeweler’s knives and saws.
Among the materials used, Burns says, “I have this mahogany source which is super dry and light, so it has that vintage sound but it won’t be a 10 pound guitar. It’s ultralight mahogany, and it’s gonna really sound.
According to Emsley’s design, the guitar has a unique neck profile that would be a soft Les Paul ’59 style V near the head, which flattens into a big C as it hits the body.
The body and head are complemented by decorative nitro checkerboard binding, the neck being treated with plain cream binding and black dot fret markers.
Under the hood, the OE-1 can be outfitted with either a pair of Staple P90 soap bars or a set of custom Mojo dogear Filter’trons, the latter described by Emsley as having “a lot of chime like a single coil would. â€Into a humbucker-style pickup.
Other features include a Tune-O-Matic bridge, Stop Bar tailpiece, Grover tuners, and custom turned brass control knobs. As for aesthetics, the OE-1 features an elegant two-tone gold and ivory colourway on the front and a shiny natural mahogany on the back.
Emsley said of the OE-1: “It’s a mix of engineering, instinct and my own experience with high end guitars. I am very proud of the sound and feel of the guitar.
Burns added: “We want people to grab this thing and immediately feel at home, and be like ‘Wow.’
The Orange OE-1 is available now for $ 5,452 and comes with a Hiscox hard case. At the time of writing, it is estimated that orders will take approximately four weeks.
